"Well this was a great opener for us. I was really pleased to play ten guys, and have all of them score. We nearly had 8-9 in double figures. We knew we were going to play a team that liked to quick shoot, and board play was going to be a big importance. We nearly got fifty rebounds, so we took care of the ball. We must have had 26 assists and 12 turnovers in the opener, you've got to be really pleased with that. Its hard to find anything wrong with that, I'm sure we'll find some things in the film, but I'm very, very pleased with the way the guys played. "
On the slow start:
"Well, we're versatile that way, and our bench really did a good job in the first half. I thought Jonathan came in, you know Jonathan scored the least amount of points tonight, yet I thought he was our best defender, he really did a nice job on Herring. They took a couple 26 footers that went in early, those 26 footers all of a sudden didn't go in later, and that fueled a lot of our transition game. So we had to just weather some early shots that went in, and I thought our guys did that. You've got to stay patient and poised at that time and I thought our young guys did a good job of doing that."
On freshman getting experience:
"I think just by watching them they had a lot of fun, that was a key part that their first game at the Pit. They scored over 100 points, they shared the basketball, everybody got involved with things, and that's always a nice atmosphere to have. It changes in a hurry, we go from having the 13,000 here for us to 17,000 on Sunday against us. It will be the tell of two different kinds of things that our players have to experience, but we showed a lot of promise, I think this team's got a chance to just keep getting better and better, and that's encouraging."
Southeast Missouri State head coach Zac Roman:
"They have a great team. They are well coached. We knew they were going to make a run and they did in the first five, six minutes of that second half. I am proud of our guys. We battled. We only had seven guys available to play tonight, and we ran out of gas. We have a lot to work on, but like I told them after the game, we are going to stick together as a team and we are going to move forward."
"We got here yesterday for practice and you could tell everyone was worn out (from the altitude) after the first ten minutes of warming up. So that was not a big deal, but we could feel it a little bit. We have a lot to work on. This is game number one. We have a lot of games to play, and we are looking forward to playing K-State on Sunday."
"Bijon (Jones) was solid. I didn't realize I played him 40 minutes until after the game. He never looks like he is tired to me. He had a good game. We just got to get everyone else on the same page. I told the guys after the game that we played the game about one fourth of the way that we want to play it and then it got a little bit out of hand. We just have to get back to the drawing board and keep working, keep getting better."
