WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The fifth-ranked New Mexico women's golf team leads the 12-team Landfall Collegiate Tradition after shooting a three-over 291 in the first round of the tournament Friday afternoon (Oct. 31) at the par-72, 6,043-yard Country Club of Landfall's Jack Nicklaus Course. The Lobos lead second-place and 18th-ranked Tulane by nine strokes (300).

Individually, junior Kailin Downs (Bend, Ore.) is tied for the lead after carding a three-under 69 (32-37). The reigning Mountain West Golfer of the Month is knotted at the top of the leaderboard with Tulane's Suzie Fisher (33-36).

Sophomore Christine Fernandez (Henderson, Nev.) is tied for ninth after firing a one-over 73 (34-39). Freshman Ashley Rollins (Austin, Texas) shot a 74 (36-38) to sit in 13th while junior Shannon Johnson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) carded a 75 (39-36) to stand in a tie for 14th. Senior Katrina Leckovic (Burnaby, British Columbia) is tied for 26th (38-40-78).

Round two of the Landfall Tradition is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1 while the final round is set for Sunday, Nov. 2.
