Albuquerque, N.M.- Ashley Bonner won her second singles match of the weekend Sunday against TCU's Kayla Duncan. The junior finished the three-match home stand 2-1, getting her wins at the No. 4 and No. 3 singles spot. The Lobos however lost their final match of regular season, 6-1 to the Horned Frogs (7-16, 4-4). The UNM women's tennis team will take Monday off before hitting it hard in preparation for the Mountain West Conference Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. April 28-May 1.
Bonner started off strong in singles play taking the first match at 6-3. The Los Alamos, New Mexico product started the set down 1-2 before tying it up at two all and again at three all. After taking the lead at 4-3 Bonner didn't let the lead slip again. After she fell in the second set 6-2, Bonner and Duncan played a third set tiebreaker, where Bonner took the win at 10-8.
In doubles play partners Amy Shipperd and Laura Richardson won and easy match over Shalini Sahoo and Maria Babanova. The Lobo duo started out ahead and never looked back taking the match at 8-2. Shipperd and Richardson are 1-1 in dual play this spring.
The Lobos are 1-20, 0-8 heading into MWC Championships.
