COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.---New Mexico sophomore Richard York has been selected as the Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week as announced today by the Mountain West Conference. It is the first indoor award for York in his career and the first for the Lobos this season.
A product of St. Clair, Mo., York claimed the men's heptathlon title at the New Mexico Classic last weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. York earned first-place honors by tallying a program-record and personal-best 5,537 points at the conclusion of seven events. The sophomore's point total is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and ranks fourth all-time in MWC history. York's point total also ranks first in the Conference and 13th in the nation this season.
York set personal-best marks in three events at the New Mexico Classic. He clocked a time of 7.08 seconds in the 60-meter race, soared 23-1.75 (7.05m) in the long jump and recorded a time of 2:43.12 in the 1,000-meter run.
