Lobos In Sixth After Day One At MWC Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The University of New Mexico women's swimming and diving team is in sixth place after day one of the Mountain West Conference Championships hosted by Oklahoma City Community College in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Lobos, with 63 points, trail BYU's 120, Wyoming's 107, Utah's 86, Colorado State's 76 and UNLV's 72. TCU, Air Force and San Diego State are behind the Lobos with 59, 44 and 36 pts, respectively.

After day one last year the Lobos were in seventh place with 65 points.

Junior diver Carrie Quinn had a great night. She finished sixth on the 3-meter springboard with a total of 271.75 points. This marked the first time Quinn has finaled on this event.

In the 200-yard medley relay Freshmen Lisa Toelle and Ashley Grisdale, junior Andrea Zarins and senior Jenna Syverson took seventh clocking in a final time of 1:48.03.

Day one concluded with the 800-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Theresa Rogers, juniors Andrea Zarins and Tori Clarridge and senior Jennifer Hale finished sixth with a time of 7:37.91.

Day two finals begin Thursday at 6 p.m. The scheduled events are the 1-meter board, 500-yard free, 200-yard individual medley and 50-yard free.
