Lobo Volleyball Presents Annual Awards

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- University of New Mexico volleyball coach Jeff Nelson recently announced the 2007 team awards at the Lobos annual postseason banquet. Junior Jeanne Fairchild was presented the Cherry & Silver Award as the team's most valuable player and sophomore Allie Suiter was presented the Scholastic Award as the team's top student in 2007.

Redshirt freshman Jade Michaelsen received the Coaches Award and Most Improved Award for 2007, while freshman Lisa Meeter was named the Top Newcomer.

The 2007 Captains Award was presented to Kat Crawley by captains Jeanne Fairchild, Sarah Kwasigroch and Gayle Tripp. The trio also presented gifts of appreciation to Lobo volleyball support staff members.

Julie Moss of the UNM Letterman's Association presented the first-time letterwinners from 2006 and 2007 with their UNM letter jackets - Lisa Meeter, Melissa Middleton, Rose Morris, Jade Michaelsen, Allie Suiter, Taylor Hadfield, Kelsi Phillips, Anna Lehne, and Kerri Beck.

Nelson expressed his appreciation for all of the support the Lobo volleyball team has received during his first season at the helm. He presented the Lobo Award to public address announcer Randy Sakamoto, Johnson Center facility coordinator Donald Sollami, and supporters Jim Anderson, Bob and Jo Turner, and Hank and Anna Nusbaum for their efforts in promoting and supporting Lobo volleyball.

Nelson also recognized Jeanne Fairchild and Lisa Meeter for their Mountain West Conference accomplishments.

The Lobos will compete at the University of Denver Spring Tournament on April 5 and the UNLV Spring Tournament on April 19 as they prepare for a training trip to China, May 27-June 7.
