ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico women's basketball team continues their two game road trip Saturday in Salt Lake City, Utah against the University of Utah. The Lobos will try to avoid losing two straight games for the first time since December 2003. UNM is 16-5 on the season and 6-2 in the MWC, while Utah is 14-5 overall and 5-3 in conference. Tip-off is at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and can be heard on KNML 610 AM.
TONIGHT'S GAME: Tonight's game features the No. 16/16 Lobos of the University of New Mexico as they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to take on the Utes of the University of Utah in a Mountain West Conference road game. Tonight's game is the second game of a two game road trip for the Lobos and they will look to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time since December 6 and 11, 2003, with losses to South Carolina and Texas, while the last time they lost two conference games in a row was on this same road swing on Feb. 6 and 8, 2003.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS: UNM is 16-5 on the season and 6-2 in conference with wins over Oral Roberts in the first round of the preseason WNIT, Cal in the second round, at No. 12 Texas, Marist, Oklahoma State, No. 10 Minnesota, Louisiana Monroe, North Dakota State, home and away against New Mexico State, No. 22 Utah 59-42, at Colorado State 73-57, Wyoming 62-39, at Air Force, San Diego State and UNLV, with losses to Oklahoma twice, at No. 12 Arizona State, at TCU and at BYU. New Mexico is led in scoring by sophomore Dionne Marsh at 16.3 ppg. Senior Abbie Letz leads the team in rebounding at 7.8 rpg., while junior Katie Montgomery leads UNM in assists at 3.8 apg.
SCOUTING THE UTES: Utah is currently 14-5 overall and 5-3 in the MWC with wins against Jacksonville State, at Arizona, Oregon State, Loyola Marymount, Weber State, Gonzaga, North Carolina State, Eastern Michigan, Southern Utah, at San Diego State, Colorado State, Air Force and Wyoming, with losses at Washington, Notre Dame, at New Mexico, BYU and at TCU The leading scorer and rebounder for the Utes is Kim Smith at 19.2 ppg. and 7.7 rpg. Leading them in assists is Shona Thorburn at 6.4 apg.
