ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The New Mexico women's basketball team started individual workouts this week and continues to prepare for the 2009-10 season. The Lobos will workout for 30 minutes a day for four days a week with the coaching staff. The team has been split up into groups of three or four to maximize the learning experience and individual attention. UNM is coming off a 25-11 season and is one of the nations top women's programs after making 12 straight postseason appearances.

New Mexico returns a talent group of seniors along with some key contributors. Seniors Amy Beggin, Eileen Weissmann, Georonika Jackson and Valerie Kast are back and ready for stellar final campaigns. Juniors Amanda Best and Jessica Kielpinski bring experience while the underclassmen are talented. Sophomore Sara Halasz could be an impact player while sophomore forward Porche Torrance is returning from an injury. Guards Nikki Nelson and Lauren Taylor are back for their second seasons in the Cherry and Silver.

The Lobos welcome five freshmen to the team in 2009-10. All have great athleticism and are in great physical shape opening camp.

The NCAA allows only two hours of individual workouts each week with the coaching staff and up to eight hours of time with the team including weights and conditioning.

The first official team meeting was on Monday. The team sat through meetings with compliance, athletic training, strength and conditioning as well as media relations.
