The University of New Mexico men's golf team dropped one spot to 17th at the E-Z-Go Schenkel Invitational after a 6-over 294 today. No. 1 Alabama leads the 18-team event at 11-under par through 36 holes.
UNM was led by junior Jacob Lestishen's even par 72 in the second round. Lestishen birdie his final three holes to post UNM's low 18 of the tournament. Lestishen is 7-over in the event (79-72=151) and tied for 63rd place. Five players are tied a 5-under for the tournament lead after two rounds.
Junior Jon Sauer posted his second consecutive 74 and is 4-over after 36 holes (74-74=148), tying for 41st in the individual race. Freshman Tom Carlson shot a 75 today and is 5-over (74-75=149). Junior Parker Pemberton's 73 today was UNM's second best round of the day. He is 6-over for the tournament (77-73=150) and tied for 55th. Junior Steve Saunders finished with a 75 in the second round. Saunders is 11-over (80-75=155) and tied for 86th.
UNM will play the third and final round at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga., tomorrow. Live scores will be available via golfstat on GoLobos.com. The E-Z-Go Schenkel Invitational is hosted by Georgia Southern University.
