PROVO, Utah - The University of New Mexico softball team fell 11-6 to Brigham Young Friday evening at Gail Miller Field in Provo, Utah. Freshman Stefanie Carramusa led the Lobos at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a double and a run. New Mexico will finish up this weekend against BYU on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT. Tomorrow's game can be seen via BYU-TV on Comcast channel 289, DIRECTV channel 374, on the Dish Network on channel 9403, and channel 392 on Cable One in Rio Rancho.

The Cougars got an early lead in the bottom of the second inning scoring six runs on six hits and an error to make it 6-0. BYU scored two more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by clean-up hitter Andrea Ramirez to get an 8-0 lead.

The Lobos stopped an attempted run rule by scoring two runs in the top of the fifth. Cassandra Kalapsa led the inning off with a walk to get on base. Kerry Hodgins reached on an error by the pitcher. Kalapsa scored on a throwing error by the first baseman to get the first run for the Lobos. With Hodgins on third, Jessica Garcia reached on an error by the second baseman to score Hodgins and end the inning down 8-2.

New Mexico scored another two runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead in half making it 8-4. Carramusa led off the inning with a double down the left field line to get on base. Then with Carramusa on third, Shaunte Duarte singled to left field to score Carramusa. Duarte got to third on a wild pitch and a ground out by Jordyn Bledsoe, and then scored on a wild pitch to end the inning.

The Cougars scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth off of five hits to make it 11-4. BYU was led at the plate by Angline Quiocho, who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs and a stolen base. Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run. Paige Affleck (25-8) received the win in the circle for the Cougars (35-10, 8-2 Mountain West Conference) with five strikeouts.

The Lobos scored their final two runs in the top of the seventh inning to end the game 11-6. With runners on second and third, Carramusa singled to score both the runners.

Duarte went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Hodgins had two runs and an RBI and Kalapsa had two walks, a run, and a stolen base. Garcia had a run, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk.
