LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- UNLV rallied with a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday night to swept UNM Softball in a doubleheader at Eller Media Stadium. UNM held the lead for the majority of the game but fell in game two, 5-3. The Lobos scored three runs on six hits but dropped to 23-22 overall and 5-9 in the Mountain West Conference. UNLV moved to 25-34-1 and 5-11 in league play.
UNLV added a run in the bottom of the first on a throwing error. The Lobos lead the game, 2-1, after the first inning.
New Mexico plated its third run in the fourth inning. Junior Analise Rubalcava had an RBI single down the left field line allowing Gilmore to score.
UNLV loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth with one out. UNM starter Madelyn Machac recorded a strikeout and then Laure Briones hit a grand slam to left center field. The Rebels led 5-3 after the homer and held on for the win.
Machac pitched a solid game until the sixth but took the loss after allowing the grand slam. Machac fell to 5-5 with the loss.
Gilmore led UNM at the plate going 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.
The Lobos travel to San Diego, Calif., Saturday to face the Aztecs at 1 p.m. UNM concludes the final road trip of the year against SDSU at 1 p.m. PT.
