The University of New Mexico softball team falls 12-3 to New Mexico State, Tuesday evening at Lobo Field. Freshman Sheryl Guillermo went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and a run to lead the Lobos at the plate. New Mexico will return to action on Saturday and Sunday against Colorado State at 1 p.m. at Lobo Field. All fans wearing pink will get in for $2 for Saturday's "Think Pink Day." New Mexico State went up early with two runs in the top of the first inning off of a two-run homer to left field by Hoku Nohara.
The Lobos came back in the bottom of the second inning with three runs. Jessica Garcia led off the inning with a single and advanced to second with a walk by Kaela DeBroeck. Kerry Hodgins singled on a bunt to load the bases. Guillermo doubled down the left field line to score Garcia and DeBroeck. The Cristin Anderson doubled to center field to score Guillermo to end the inning up 3-2.
The Aggies came back in the top of the third with a run on three hits to tie the game at 3-3. New Mexico State had four more runs in the fifth off of a three-run homer by Nohara and a home run by Ashley Maroda. The Aggies ended the game with five more runs in the seventh to end the game 12-3.
New Mexico State was led at the plate by Nohara going 3-for-3 with seven RBIs, two home runs, two walks, and two runs. Kandis Jones went 2-for-5 with an RBI and three runs.
Garcia went 1-for-4 with a run and Anderson went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI for New Mexico. DeBroeck (5-13) had a walk and a run at the plate and received the loss for the Lobos in the circle.
