ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico volleyball team improved its record to 9-1 on the season with a win tonight over Bowling Green, 3-0. The win puts the Lobos in a position to win their third consecutive tournament championship of the season when they host Gonzaga on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the final match of the Comcast Lobo Invitational.

The Lobos played a tight match with scores of 30-27, 31-29, 33-31, coming from behind in all three games.

"This was great for our confidence," said Lobo head coach Jeff Nelson. "We came back in every game and pulled it out. Hopefully that will help us build into tomorrow's match with Gonzaga. That match should be exciting as well."

In Game One, the Lobos came back from a four-point deficit, 13-9, when sophomore Anna Lehne nailed a kill to even the score at 23. Redshirt freshman Jade Michaelsen and junior Jeanne Fairchild followed with kills, along with another by Lehne to give UNM a 26-23 lead. After a Bowling Green timeout, Michaelsen and Lehne combined on a block and freshman Lisa Meeter connected on one of her four aces in the match to give the Lobos a 28-23 lead. Fairchild closed out the game with a kill, 30-27.

Game Two saw the Lobos get down 19-11 to the Falcons. But Meeter's serving held for eight points to put UNM in a 19-19 tie. The teams went back and forth never getting more than a two-point lead on either side. Back-to-back ball-handling errors on Bowling Green gave the Lobos a 30-29 lead. Fairchild closed out the game for a second time with a kill, 31-29.

For the third game in a row, the Lobos had to climb out of a hole, getting down 5-0 before gaining serve on a service error by Bowling Green. The Falcons kept the lead at 12-9 until a kill by Kerri Beck gave the Lobos serve. Junior Sarah Kwasigroch held serve to give UNM a six-point turnaround and a 15-12 lead. Again the teams battled back and forth with 11 ties after the 19-19 mark. Michaelsen was able to get her lone ace of the game for match-point, 33-31.

Fairchild led the team with 16 kills. Meeter recorded her second double-double of the day and fifth of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs.

Earlier in the evening session, Gonzaga improved to 2-0 in the tournament with a 3-0 win over Northern Colorado. Elaina Renius led the Bulldogs with 11 kills.
