The University of New Mexico women's soccer team made its first appearance in the Central regional rankings this week. The Lobos are currently ranked No. 14 out of 68 teams in the Central region according to Soccer Buzz Magazine (www.soccerbuzz.com). This is the first time since 1997 that the Lobos have been recognized in the top 15 regional rankings. UNM improved its record to 3-1-0 over the weekend, defeating Portland State 2-1 and Texas Tech 5-0 at the UNM Soccer Complex. New Mexico's 3-1 record is the team's best start since 1997 when the Lobos opened the year 4-0. New Mexico has scored nine goals through four games and is outshooting its opponents 61-43. "We are honored to be ranked in the Central region," said UNM head coach Kit Vela. "It's a great tribute to us after the hard work we have been putting in this season." Other states represented in the Central region are Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Tennessee, Colorado, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Missouri. The Lobos travel to Los Angeles, Calif. this weekend to face Washington State on Friday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. (MDT) and Loyola Marymount on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. (MDT).
