RUIDOSO, N.M. - The University of New Mexico men's junior varsity golf team won the nine-team WNMU Fall Intercollegiate by 20-strokes over Odessa College. The Lobos finished the tournament with a 7-under par 849 (286-277-286) on the par-71, 6,539 yard Alto Lakes Country Club and the par-72, 6,874 yard, Inn of the Mountain Gods Course.
Individually for the Lobos, Jay Choi won medalist honors for the second time in his short career with a 10-under par 204 (69-67-68). Choi won the tournament by five strokes over teammate Jeff Lanier who carded a 5-under par 209 (72-66-71). Other UNM scores were Jim Anderson who finished tied for 13th at 221 (72-75-74) and Chase Thomas who finished at 222 (77-69-76) to tie for 15th. Jeb Grueneberger (76-DQ-73) and Jeff Briggs (73-DQ-83) also played for UNM but were disqualified.
This concludes the UNM men's golf team's fall season and the team will return to action in February, at the Arizona Ping Invitational. The UNM JV team will resume action in March, at the Herb Wimberly.
