COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--- The Mountain West Conference has named University of New Mexico's Rory Fraser as the cross country athlete of week. He was chosen alongside Marianne Hogan from San Diego State University. It is the first career MWC award for Fraser.
Fraser, a native of Leicester, England, is a senior at UNM and finished fourth overall in the 8-kilometer run at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Oct. 1, in South Bend, Ind. The senior posted a time of 23:53.0, which is the third-best 8K mark in the MWC this season. Paced by Fraser's performance, the Lobos collected 78 points to earn runner-up team honors.
On Sept. 28, the MWC named Lobo Nicholas Kipruto as the athlete of the week for cross country, making this the second week in a row that a Lobo has claimed the title.
Both Fraser and Kipruto will be competing Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at the Bronco Invitational at Santa Clara University.
