New Mexico Head Coach Steve Alford
"Well I couldn't be happier. We just beat a really good basketball team. This is a team that won 27 games last year, got to the second round of the (NCAA) tournament, and they're really good. I knew how good they were on tape. They are athletic, they're really good defensively, they put a lot of pressure on your own defense so just to get a win against this team is really, really positive for our team."
"I think our team can really gain even more confidence out of this because this was a really, really good team that is well-coached, so I feel really fortunate to get a win and then talking about a 15-game non-league schedule to win 14 of them. There can't be three or four, I don't know we might be the only team in the country with fourteen. Fourteen wins going into the New Year, I just can't say enough about this team. I am very, very pleased at the direction of this team and hopefully we can keep getting better."
Dayton Head Coach Brian Gregory
On the loss
"I think both programs and teams benefit from games like this. We're going to go into some tough environments over the next two months in our league against some high-quality teams and obviously we need to play better. I give Steve (Alford) and his guys a lot of credit. They are a high-quality team, very efficient offensively with a lot of different weapons."
On the Lobos as a team
"It is a fun team to watch. Those guys really understand how to play. They enjoy playing together and one thing (Steve) probably doesn't get enough credit for is they play really hard. They play with great scrap and toughness about them, which they are going to need because every good team needs that. I thought at times we matched it and at times we didn't. I have to give them credit defensively. They forced us to take quick shots as opposed to us working for some higher percentage shots. It was a quality team we lost to today. I am disappointed that we lost. This is two pretty good teams that went at it today."
Lobo defense on top scorer Chris Wright
"One of his challenges is to gain more consistency game in and game out. That is what all great players have to battle. That consistency is what separates guys. He did not play as well as he is capable of playing tonight. On our side, you have to give New Mexico a lot of credit for that. They did a good job of swarming him, flipping between man and zone to keep him a little off balance."
On play of Lobo senior Roman Martinez
"He is a great college player. He does all the things that he needs to do to help his team win. There isn't a coach in the country that wouldn't take him. Steve is lucky. He is their motion maker. He makes all the guys better, and when you can do that from a non-guard position that is a unique trait."
