Ten former University of New Mexico men's golfers are currently battling through the early rounds of the PGA Tour Qualifying School at various sites across the country. Madalitso Muthiya (2002-05) led a trio of Lobos who advanced to the second stage of qualifying by finishing second at the Lantana Golf Club event in Lantana, Texas. Five other former New Mexico golfers will also play their first stage events this week.

The final stage is a 108-hole event played at the Orange County National Golf Club in Winter Garden, Fla., on Nov. 28-Dec. 3.

Muthiya carded a 7-under 281 (69-73-68-71) in his 72-hole stage to finish one stroke off the lead in the 77-player field. Jay Choi (2003-06) also competed in the Lantana stage but did not advance. He shot a 20-over 308 (77-79-78-74) to tie for 66th overall.

Jay Reynolds (2002-05) advanced to the second stage out of Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring, Texas, by posting a 2-under total of 286 (72-71-73-71). Reynolds tied for 17th overall.

Charlie Beljan (2004-07) and Chris Wall (1996-99) were both scheduled to play at Carlton Oaks in Santee, Calif., last weekend, but the Wildfires in southern California moved that event to the TPC in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Oct. 30-Nov. 2. J.B. Sneve (1984-87) will compete at the Auburn University Country Club in Auburn, Ala., while Brian Kortan (1990-94) will battle the field at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas, on Oct. 30-Nov. 2.
