Post-Game Quotes
UNM vs. New Mexico Highlands

UNM Head Coach Yvonne Sanchez

Was the game what you expected?

"I had no idea what to expect, I really didn't. We were playing a team that took New Mexico State in to overtime (New Mexico Highlands); we have a group of girls that hadn't played a game in a long time and had been through a lot in the course of six months; it was better than I expected. I'm really proud of that group, they did a nice job today."

What did you think of the defense?

"The defense I liked, we held them Highlands to 45 points and that was good. They had 11 offensive rebounds, that's something that we can probably cut back on that, but I liked the fouls we had. We have to clean up the little things, but I thought they did well."

What do you think of the depth you have coming off the bench?

"Some of them came off the bench and they did what I thought they were going to do, but you just never know. Whitney Johnson is going to be a very nice player for us and she did a good job. Jayme Jackson also had a great game coming off the bench, I'm very proud of her. For a kid that's coming to us from Junior College who doesn't know what to expect she did a really nice job. I like the energy that they gave us."

You had some different rotations out there today, is there a combination that you really liked?

"In the heart of the first half when we went on our run, Caroline Durbin hit some nice shots. We had Porche Torrance out on the wing, Whitney was in the post and Jayme was running point, there was a few that when they were out there I thought 'that's a great group out there, you can put them in and they'll really help each other out.'"

Junior guard Caroline Durbin

You started off kind of slow, how did you get yourself back into the game?

"Just knowing what our offense is, we've run through the plays a thousand times and I know how to run them. I knew I would get shots and I knew that the team would start working together better."

Did you feel nervous at the beginning of the game?

"I was more anxious than nervous, I think we just had to get it out of our system, now that the game is over and done with we can focus."

What does the team have to do in order to prepare for the season opener?

"We have to limit our turnovers, but part of it was just nerves from the first game. It will get better, but we do have to take care of the ball, other than that I think we did good for it being the first game."

Junior guard Jayme Jackson

What was your experience in your first game at The Pit?

"I was very nervous, but once I got out there I was more relaxed and I had a lot of fun."
