IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Johnny Parkes defeated Jonathan Kinsella at the USTA Futures in California on Saturday to advance to the 32 draw set for Sunday, Sept. 21.

Parkes won decisively, 6-3, 6-1.

Miles Bugby and Graeme Kassautzki were eliminated and will not advance play at the event designed to give current college tennis players a taste of competing at the professional level. Parkes will continue on in the match-ups against former college and current pro players.

In Tucson, Ariz., after advancing to the quarterfinals on Friday, the Lobos were stopped on Saturday. Newcomer Carl Ho advanced to the semifinals after a 6-3, 6-3 win, but fell to Arizona's Jason Zafiros, 6-4, 6-3. Zafiros had defeated senior Chandler Brass in the quarterfinals, 7-6, 2-6, 6-1. Sophomore Joe Wood kept it close, but couldn't pull through, losing 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.

The Lobos will get the opportunity to rack up some practice with consolation rounds at the Arizona Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 21, starting at 9 a.m., while Parkes looks to advance his stay at the USTA Futures.
