SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The 19th-ranked San Diego State Aztecs defeated New Mexico softball, 1-0, Sunday in the final road game of the regular-season for UNM. Senior Kelly Ninemire held the nationally-ranked Aztecs to a run on three hits but took the loss. Sophomore Sara Loeffelholz went 1-for-3 to lead the Lobos. New Mexico slipped to 23-24 on the year and 5-11 in the Mountain West Conference. SDSU improved to 41-15 and 13-5 in MWC action.
SDSU plated its only run in the fourth inning. Erin Floros led off the inning with a double to right center field and later scored when Lindsey Marquez traded place. Marquez looped a double down the left field line collecting the RBI.
The Lobos had four batters reach base in the game including singles by sophomores Sara Loeffelholz and Katie Gilmore. Loeffelholz lined a single to center field in the third inning while Gilmore reached on an infield single. Freshman Tianna George singled in the seventh and senior Lindsey Elcess also reached on a walk in the first.
UNM threatened in the top of the seventh with runners at second and third but couldn't come through with a key hit. The Lobos stranded four runners in the game.
SDSU senior Christina Ross got the win and improved to 28-12. Ross had nine strikeouts in the game.
UNM senior Kelly Ninemire took the loss and dropped to 15-15.
The Lobos return home to finish the season against Utah and BYU. UNM hosts the Utes Thursday for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. on the Mountain Network. The weekend will concluded with a single games Friday and Saturday with the Cougars.
