ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - In a match-up of top-20 teams the No. 16 University of New Mexico will travel to Provo, Utah, to take on the No. 19 BYU Cougars on Thursday night. The Lobos are 16-4 overall and 6-1 in second in the MWC, while the Cougars are 17-1 on the season and 7-0 in first in the conference. The game will be televised nationally on College Sports Television (CSTV) as part of a MWC doubleheader, with tip-off time from the Marriott Center scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (MST). The game can also be heard locally on KNML 610 AM.
TONIGHT'S GAME: Tonight's game features the No. 17/18 Lobos of the University of New Mexico as they travel to Provo, Utah, to take on the Cougars of BYU in a Mountain West Conference road game. Tonight's game features the two top teams in the MWC and two teams ranked in the top-20.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS: UNM is 16-4 on the season and 6-1 in conference with wins over Oral Roberts in the first round of the preseason WNIT, Cal in the second round, at No. 12 Texas, Marist, Oklahoma State, No. 10 Minnesota, Louisiana Monroe, North Dakota State, home and away against New Mexico State, No. 22 Utah 59-42, at Colorado State 73-57, Wyoming 62-39, at Air Force, San Diego State and UNLV, with losses to Oklahoma twice, at No. 12 Arizona State and at TCU. New Mexico is led in scoring by sophomore Dionne Marsh at 15.9 ppg. Senior Abbie Letz leads the team in rebounding at 7.7 rpg., while junior Katie Montgomery leads UNM in assists at 3.7 apg.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS: BYU is currently 17-1 overall and 7-0 in the MWC with wins at Cal State Northridge, at UCLA, Cal-Santa Barbara, at Stony Brook, at Seton Hall, at UC Riverside, Northern Arizona, Utah Valley State, at Weber State, Portland, Air Force, at Utah, UNLV, at Wyoming, SDSU, at TCU and Colorado State, with their lone loss coming to North Carolina State. The leading scorer and rebounder for the Cougars is Ambrosia Anderson at 19.4 ppg. and 7.9 rpg. Leading them in assists is Melinda Johnsen at 3.7 apg.
