Albuquerque, N.M. -- The University of New Mexico men's tennis team takes a six match win streak (13-6 overall) into MWC play in their final home matches of the season. New Mexico, ranked No. 54, welcomes the Utah Utes on Friday. On Saturday, the Lobos and Air Force compete. San Diego State closes out the home portion of the season on Senior Day, Sunday. All matches will be held at the Lobo Tennis Club at 1:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission.
The Utes come in at 8-8 this season playing their first official conference match. Utah will have a chance to even the season record against the Lobos after each team kicked off the year on opposite sides of the court at the Mountain Regional Playoffs in Boise, Id. UNM collected their first victory, 4-1 on Jan. 19, advancing to the finals before falling to Boise State 4-3. The Lobos lead the all-time series history 27-22.
Air Force flies in at 10-11 on the season and 0-3 in MWC action. BYU handed the Falcons their third straight loss, all MWC foes, last Saturday. Air Force and San Diego State face off on Friday. New Mexico holds a commanding 27-3 lead all-time.
The San Diego State Aztecs, ranked No. 48, have a 10-6 overall (2-4 on the road) with three matches remaining before battling the Lobos. SDSU faces off with Air Force on Friday and Utah on Saturday for their first MWC matches of the season. UNM holds a slight 23-18 lead in the history of the two programs.
New Mexico travels to BYU on April 10 to close out the season against UNLV, BYU and TCU on three consecutive days.
