The University of New Mexico ski team began its quest to repeat as National Champions in 2005 with two days of Nordic racing last weekend in West Yellowstone, Mont. On Friday, November 26, the men competed in a 12K classic race. Junior Geir-Endre Rogn finished 13th overall and fifth among collegiate skiers to lead UNM. A total of 66 skiers started the race. Freshman Inge Kristofferson came in 24th and eighth among the college racers. Sophomore Dirk Grimm, a 2004 All-American, placed 27th overall and 10th in the collegiate race. Fellow sophomore Jedd Young place 57th overall and 24th among the college men. Freshman Peter Richmond raced in the 6K junior competition and won the event.

The women's 6K race included 44 starters and junior Trine Lundamo, a 2004 All-American, placed 20th overall and seventh among the college women. She was followed by Pirkko Pulkkanen, who finished 35th overall and 17th in the college race. Senior Andrea Roberts placed 36th overall and 18th among the college women.
