ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico women's basketball team will begin a two game road trip through Utah on Thursday night, when they travel to Salt Lake City to play the University of Utah. The Lobos are 15-7 on the season and 5-4 in the MWC, while the Utes are 14-8 overall and 7-2 in conference. Tip-off from the Hunstman Center is set for 7:00 PM and can be heard live on 610 AM The Sports Animal.
TONIGHT'S GAME: Tonight's game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico traveling to Salt Lake City to play the Utes of the University of Utah in a Mountain West Conference game.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS: New Mexico is 15-7 this season and 5-4 in the MWC with victories over Florida Atlantic (74-44), No. 25 Texas (63-60), Georgia Southern (64-43), Siena (78-39), New Mexico State (81-47 and 65-45), at Arizona (76-63), Sam Houston State (77-41), UCLA (72-63), Northern Arizona (62-51), Colorado State (73-42), Air Force (60-46), UNLV (77-56), San Diego State (76-46) and Wyoming (50-43) and losses to No. 12/13 Arizona State (67-49), Nebraska (66-59), No. 7/8 Oklahoma (80-58), Wyoming (54-51), Utah (49-48), BYU (63-59) and TCU (67-43). UNM is led in scoring by senior Julie Briody at 15.5 ppg and rebounding by junior Dionne Marsh at 6.5 rpg. Leading the Lobos in assists is senior Katie Montgomery at 3.4 apg.
SCOUTING THE UTES: Utah is 14-8 on the season and 7-2 in conference with wins Utah Valley State (70-68 2 OT), Weber State (77-43), Long Beach State (66-43), USC (70-66), Arizona (66-60), Montana State (66-63), Northwestern (80-69), San Diego State (51-48), New Mexico (49-48), Colorado State (73-57), UNLV (49-37), TCU (72-61), Air Force (80-59) and BYU (64-54) and losses to Gonzaga (57-45), Fresno State (61-55), Pittsburgh (59-51), Oregon (50-44), Stanford (74-47), Georgetown (60-57), Wyoming (56-55) and San Diego State (71-66). The Utes are led in scoring by Morgan Warburton at 16.2 ppg and rebounding by Kalee Whipple and Joh-Teena Filipe at 6.2 rpg. Warburton also leads them in assists at 3.3 apg.
THE COACHES: UNM is led by head coach Don Flanagan who enters his 12th season at New Mexico. Flanagan is 254-111 at UNM. The head coach of Utah is Elaine Elliott who is in her 23rd season as a Utes and has a record of 504-201.
THE SERIES: This will be the second of two meetings between New Mexico and Utah, with the Utes winning the first meeting 49-48 in Albuquerque. This will be the 60th meeting overall with Utah holding a 42-17 edge and are 27-1 in Salt Lake City.
