University of New Mexico senior cornerback Brandon Payne (Dayton, Texas) has been named a second team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. This is the 115th team recognized by the prestigious organization from New Haven, Conn.

Payne leads the nation in passes defended with 23 or an average of 2.09 a game. He has set a school record with 17 pass deflections, and has become just the third Lobo since 1979 to intercept six passes in a season. A first team all-Mountain West Conference selection, Payne is just the second UNM defensive back to capture All-America honors, joining Brian Urlacher in 1998 and 1999.

Payne and his Lobo teammates face Navy on Dec. 30 in the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco.
