ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico volleyball team will take a break from the usual preseason routine on Saturday, Aug. 18, to welcome back several alumni of the program. After a day of getting acquainted, the 2007 Lobos will play the alumni in an exhibition match at the Johnson Center at 7 p.m.
"We are looking forward to a great Alumni Day," said first-year head coach Jeff Nelson. "We have several alumni who are committed to coming back and it will be great to visit with them about their hopes for the program's future."
Several former Lobo volleyball players have registered for Saturday's activities, including all-American setter Karen Saavedra-Warnock (1985-88) and NCAA Tournament player Tracy Shipman-Henderson (1989-91).
"It will be great for our team to get to know our alumni and understand the intensity and pride that goes into being a part of the UNM volleyball program," said Nelson.
The alumni match will be the Lobos only exhibition competition before the 2007 season gets underway on Friday, Aug. 24 with the MCM Elegante Lobo Classic at the Johnson Center.
Season ticket packs are available for women's volleyball home games in 2007. A season ticket pack will give one person admission to any 15 home Lobo volleyball regular season matches.
