Albuquerque, N.M. --- Only a few weeks into the its spring season, the Lobo men's tennis team has quickly made its mark. The men are seeing some national recognition for their hard work so far this season, earning a spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Associations national rankings, coming in at No. 61.
With the ranking the Lobos are ahead of previous opponents DePaul and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. In their first match of the season New Mexico beat DePaul 6-1. They followed up that win with a shutout against Texas A&M Corpus Christi 7-0.
Earning wins from these two teams early on has helped the Lobos take a seat in the national rankings. The Blue Demons posted wins against fellow ranked teams from Princeton and Iowa, while the Islanders took a win from Texas Christian.
But New Mexico isn't stopping at No. 61. The team is already looking ahead to this weekend where they will take on the University of Arizona, who is currently seated at No.43. A win at Arizona would give the Lobos their first victory on the road and would continue the pace already set but the team so far.
The national ranking on top of their 5-0 start shows how hard the Lobos have worked and how determined they are as both individuals and as a team to further their successes.
"The ranking is great for the team, but it is just a small step in what we are trying to accomplish this year," Head Coach Alan Dils said. " We want to continue to build upon the success we are having early in the season."
