SAN MARCOS, Texas --- New Mexico softball gave up five runs on five fielding miscues Saturday and fell to Texas State, 5-0, here at Bobcat Field. The Lobos managed five hits in the contest and dropped to 15-12 on the season. Texas State moved to 23-11 on the season.
Albuquerque native Madelyn Machac threw a complete game against the Bobcats allowing eight hits and five runs. All five runs for Texas State were unearned after fielding problems by UNM. Machac, who had one of her best collegiate outings, fell to 2-1 on the season with the loss.
Offensively, sophomore Sara Loeffelholz had two hits in the game. UNM had scoring opportunities in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings. The Lobos stranded 11 runners on-base in the game.
Texas State scored four in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to pull out the victory.
