LAS CRUCES, N.M. --- Amy Beggin had 16 points for the Lobos as New Mexico lost to New Mexico State at the Pan American Center this afternoon, 58-42. Lobo senior Dionne Marsh recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Beggin, a sophomore from Maplewood, Minn., played 37 minutes for UNM before leaving the game with a slight concussion. She was 5 of 9 from the field, including 3 of 4 from beyond the three-point arc.
Marsh also played 37 minutes and was the Lobos' best free throw shooter on the afternoon at 9 of 11. Eight of her team-high 11 rebounds were defensive.
The Lobos held a two-point edge at halftime, 24-22, outshooting the Aggies .269 to .194 in the first half. But NMSU (5-1) went on a 12-0 run to start the second half, taking a 34-24 lead. The win by the Aggies snapped a 22-game winning streak by the Lobos against NMSU.
The teams will meet again on Friday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. in The Pit in Albuquerque for the second half of the women's basketball portion of the Route 66 Casino and Hotel Rio Grande Rivalry.
New Mexico, now 5-2 on the season, will host the Comcast Lobo Shootout on Dec. 7-8, including participating teams Norfolk State, Southern and Towson. Game times are set for 5 and 7 p.m. each day.
