ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico softball team falls 14-0 in five innings to No. 2 Arizona, Sunday afternoon at Lobo Field. The Lobos will travel down south on Tuesday, April 6 to play New Mexico State for a one-game series. New Mexico will begin conference play on the road on April 9 against San Diego State and UNLV on April 10-11. For more information go to www.GoLobos.com
The Wildcats scored one run on two hits in the top of the first inning and scored eight runs on six hits in the second inning to go ahead 9-0. Arizona scored three more runs in the third and two more in the top of the fourth to end the game 14-0 in five innings.
Cristin Anderson and Kerry Hodgins both drew a walk at the plate for the Lobos to get on base. Anderson led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk and reached second on a sacrifice bunt by Stefani Carramusa. Hodgins walked in the bottom of the third and was out at second when Anderson reached on a fielder's choice.
K'Lee Arredondo led Arizona at the plate going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs. Brittany Lastrapes, Lauren Schutzler, and Brigette Del Ponte each hit a home run for the Wildcats. Kenzie Fowler earned the no-hitter in the circle for the Wildcats with eight strikeouts. Fowler is now 18-2 with 10 shutouts on the season. With the win Arizona improves to 28-3.
Samantha Gatson received the loss for the Lobos in the circle and is now 3-7. New Mexico falls to 10-19 on the season. For more information regarding Lobo softball go to www.GoLobos.com.
