LA JOLLA, Calif. - Junior hammer throwers Jamie Fishencord and Joshua Parra each turned in career-best efforts on Friday to lead the University of New Mexico on day one of the Triton Invitational on the campus of UC San Diego. Fishencord increased her own school record and NCAA regional qualifying mark by two feet with a throw of 179-02 (14th). Parra, meanwhile, continued his steady rise this spring, recording a mark of 169-07 (19th).
In other action on Friday, senior Leighton Katsuda became the first Lobo to compete in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in two years, finishing fourth with a time of 9:56.03. Fellow senior Brooke Gosling placed seventh in the women's 3K steeplechase, clocking a time of 12:42.55. Junior Amanda Barnes, meanwhile, recorded a mark of 139-01 to finish 26th in the hamnmer.
New Mexico resumes competition at Triton Stadium on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. (MDT).
