MILWAUKEE, Wisc. --- The University of New Mexico women's soccer team defeated No. 23 Marquette 1-0 in overtime in the championship game of the Milwaukee Cup. The Lobos improved to 3-0-1 on the season as junior Jennifer Williams scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute of action.

The winning goal came off a pass from sophomore Rachel Montoya as the Marquette keeper came out of the box and Williams beat her to the goal. Williams took three shots in the game and recorded her third goal of the season and ninth game-winning goal of her career in the victory over the Golden Eagles.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelli Cornell had an impressive 12 saves for the Lobos, preventing Marquette from finding the back of the net, with nine saves coming in the first half. With the 16th shutout of her career, Cornell is now tied for third-place on the Lobos' all-time record list for shutouts in a career.

Cornell was named Most Valuable Player for the Milwaukee Cup and was joined on the all-tournament team by Lobo teammates Williams, Rachel Fields, Amanda Collins and Roxie McFarland.

The Lobos return to action Friday, Sept. 3 when they host New Mexico State at 7 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex.
