Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz. - Another four-run inning gave the New Mexico baseball a win over Arizona for the second straight day as the Lobos topped the Wildcats, 7-3, thanks for four-runs in the eighth inning. The win is the second straight for New Mexico after ending a 23-game losing streak to Arizona. The last time UNM won two in a row in Tucson was Jan. 29-30, 1994.

The Lobos got the scoring started in the third as sophomore Jordan Pacheco singled through the left side with one out, bringing home junior Chris Dabbs. After a wild pitch advanced Pacheco to second and senior Ryan Barba to third, junior Jay Russell flied out to left, giving Barba enough time to get home.

Pacheco gave UNM a 3-0 lead in the sixth, scoring on an error by third baseman Brad Boyer, who was fielding a single from junior Chris Carlson.

Arizona's Brad Glenn brought the Wildcats back into the game with one swing, a two-run home run to center field for the first extra base hit off of junior Danny Ray Herrera all season.

Two straight walks from Arizona's Daniel Schlereth in the eighth set up junior Daniel Stovall's double to right that scored Russell and Carlson. Three batters later, Arizona native sophomore Drew McDonald singled to left, driving in junior Matt Foote and sophomore Ian Hollick for a 7-2 lead.

With one out in the bottom of the inning, Boyer got one run back for Arizona, scoring on a single through the right side from Konrad Schmidt.

Herrera improved to 2-0, throwing a seven-hit complete game. He allowed three earned runs and one walk while striking out six. Berger fell to 1-2, giving up seven hits, three runs (two earned), one walk and five strikeouts in 7 innings.

Pacheco and McDonald led the Lobos at the plate, going 2-for-4. McDonald had a team-high two RBI while Pacheco recorded an RBI and a run scored. Jason Donald led Arizona, going 2-for-3. Schmidt was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI while Glenn was 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

New Mexico (5-2) and Arizona (4-4) return to the field tomorrow at noon. Senior Darren Coltrinari is slated to pitch for the Lobos against Brad Mills. Live stats are available on Arizona's official athletic website: www.arizonaathletics.com.
