FULLERTON, Calif. --- New Mexico softball fell to No. 13 Arizona Friday, 9-1, in five inning. The Lobos dropped their only game Friday during the second round of the Judi Garman Classic held in Fullerton, Calif. UNM junior Katie Gilmore went 2-for-3 with an RBI while senior Analise Rubalcava went 3-for-3. Arizona's Stacie Chambers hit a grand slam and a three-run homer to lift the Wildcast past New Mexico. The Lobos are 8-12 while Arizona improved to 25-5.
UA scored five runs in the first inning including the Chambers grand slam. The Wildcats struck again in the third with a run and three more in the fourth.
The Lobos outhit another nationally-ranked opponent Friday. UNM outhit Arizona 9-8 Friday and outhit No. 11 Arizona State Thursday.
Rubalcava took the loss in the circle for New Mexico and fell to 5-8 overall.
New Mexico continues the Garman Classic Saturday against No. 20 DePaul and Nebraska. The DePaul game will start at 10 a.m. while UNM will face Nebraska at 2 p.m.
