COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico sophomore Katie Gilmore has been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player of the Week as announced by the league office today. Gilmore earns her first career MWC weekly honor and becomes the first Lobo to be named Player of the Week this season.
Gilmore, from Phoenix, Ariz., led New Mexico to a 2-1 record last week, hitting .778 with four doubles in three games. Gilmore went a perfect 3-for-3 against New Mexico State in the Rio Grande Rivalry and batted 4-for-4 against Colorado State in game one of a doubleheader, recording three doubles and two RBI vs. the Rams. For the week, Gilmore went 7-for-9 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored while starting every game at second base for the Lobos.
This season, Gilmore is hitting .325 with a team-leading 11 doubles. Gilmore has started every game for New Mexico and has two home runs along 19 RBI.
