ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico women's basketball team defeated the New Mexico State Aggies 62-39, Sunday afternoon at The Pit. The Lobos (6-3) were led by a pair of double-doubles. Senior Melissa Forest collected her second double-double on the season (16 points, 10 rebounds), while junior Lindsey Arndt scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her third double-double on the year.
The Lobos held the Aggies (4-3) to 25 percent shooting from the field, forcing 15 turnovers. The Aggies fell behind quickly in the first half, with the Lobos taking an 18 point lead at the 1:20 mark. Arndt led the Lobos with eight first half points.
UNM started the second half with a Melissa Forest 3-pointer, before extending their second half lead to as much as 25 points. The Lobos shot 40 percent (24-59) from the field and 25 percent from beyond the arc (5-20).
New Mexico State had three players score 9 points in the losing effort (Nicole Black, Princess Moore and Sinnamonn Garrett).
Today's game marked the 53rd time in school history the Lobos and Aggies have matched up. The Lobos currently hold a 30-22 advantage over the Aggies, with the Lobos winning the last 15 games.
The Lobos take the court next on Dec, 20 against Arizona. Tip offf is set for 7 p.m. at The Pit.
