The Lobos quickly gained the lead winning doubles and then it was onto singles.

Carl Ho played against Bruno Hurtado defeating him in the number one spot with a score of 6-1, 6-3.

Samir Iftikhar not having played a match since the UNM Balloon Fiesta in October played two matches today defeating Juan Pablo Fuentes with a score of 6-3, 6-2 of Western New Mexico and CSU-Pueblo Anthony Breitenbach with a score of 6-0, 6-4.

"It was an amazing feeling. I've been anticipating it for so long," Samir Iftikhar said. "I've been sitting on the sidelines for a few months watching them and to be honest, getting a little bit jealous. To be a part of the team playing out there, it's just great."

In the number three position, Mads Hegelund defeated Alex Lesiuk with a score of 6-4, 6-4.

Mitch McDaniels played against Saul Shrom in the number four spot defeating him with a score of 6-3, 6-3.

Matthew Neeld dropped only three games against Alex Mancayo in the number five spot where he won with a score of 6-1, 6-2.

Evan Corona-Saunders saw some action today as he has not played since the UNM Balloon Fiesta on October 7-9, 2011. He defeated Tom Chavez at the number six position with a score of 6-2, 6-4.

Head Coach Alan Dils was very pleased with the two 7-0 matches of the day.

"It was a long day of tennis but we got two great matches in. It was good to get everybody to play except for Simon because he is red-shirting. It was great to get all of them out there. There were a lot of doubles. It was great to see Sammy out there playing. He is healthy and it was great to get him back in the lineup. That was the main thing. We needed to get a good look at everybody and see where everybody is at. We got some good matches and worked on a few things from the matches in Florida. We saw some improvement in those areas that we worked on. It felt pretty good."

The Lobos next match will be this Wednesday February 8th where they will travel to Las Cruces, N.M. to take on New Mexico State at their home court.
