ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- University of New Mexico Nordic skier Ingrid Leask has qualified to represent Great Britain in the 2009 World Junior Ski Championships in Praz de Lys, France, from Jan. 29-Feb. 6. The freshman from Buffalo, Minn., is a United States citizen but qualifies for the Great Britain team through her father's British citizenship. Leask will compete as a junior and leaves Saturday, Jan. 24 for the competition.

"Qualifying and competing in World Juniors is an essential step toward my goal of racing at the top level of the World Cup," said Leask. "My goals as a skier are very hefty. I am always working on improving and this opportunity will help me reach my goals."

Leask's first race will be Feb. 2, a classic sprint, followed by a 10-kilometer pursuit and a 5-kilometer skate race.

Leask has competed in five of six races for the Lobos this season. Her best finishes of the year were in Aspen, Colo., at the University of Colorado/Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial Invitational on Jan. 16 and 17. She finished 21st in the 5-kilometer classical race and 27th in the 21-kilometer freestyle race.
