Eugene, Ore. - It was a rainy day at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships today and it fit the mood for the University of New Mexico track and field athletes who competed. After setting a personal best in both the 100-meter hurdles (14.09) and in the high jump (5-7.75, 1.72m) senior Sandy Fortner fouled out in the shot put.

Due to the rain Fortner slipped out of the ring during the shot put all three attempts. The senior was in 5th place prior to fouling in the shot put, which dropped her down to 22nd. Fortner made the decision to withdraw from the rest of the competition.

"Today was unfortunate," head coach Joe Franklin said. "However, today is not at all indicative of her career. She has accomplished so much in her four years and I am very proud of her."

Events continue tomorrow, below is a schedule of the events.
