In addition to his Mountain West Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors, New Mexico senior kicker Wes Zunker was also selected as one of the Lou Groza Award Top Three Stars of the Week today. Connor Barth of North Carolina and Jad Dean of Clemson make up the rest of the week 10 national honorees.
Zunker, who is making a strong late push for all-MWC honors once again, went 4-5 on Saturday to help New Mexico keep its bowl hopes alive with a 26-17 victory over Colorado State. Zunker's field goals were from 46, 21, 30 and a season long 50 yards. Zunker was also named a Lou Groza Award Star of the Week last year following his game-winning performance against the Rams.
Connor Barth led North Carolina on Saturday in what is said to be their biggest win to date. After missing a 39 yarder in the first quarter, true freshman Barth redeemed himself as the clock ran out making a 42 yard field goal to beat the #3 Miami Hurricanes 31-28.
Jad Dean of Clemson makes the Stars of the Week for the first time this season. In their 26-20 win over NC State, Dean went 4- 4 on the day with kicks from 21, 47, 36 and 42 yards.
