ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico volleyball team will begin spring practice on Monday, March 24 and participate in three spring tournaments as preparation for the UNM China Tour from May 27-June 7.
The Lobos are coming off of one of their best seasons in recent history, under the direction of head coach Jeff Nelson. UNM finished the 2007 season 16-13 overall and 7-9 in the Mountain West Conference. Senior-to-be Jeanne Fairchild became just the second Lobo to earn all-MWC honors, while Lisa Meeter was named MWC Freshman of the Year.
Outside competition this spring includes two home events at the Johnson Center. Friday, March 28, the Lobos will host a local all-star team at 7 p.m., followed the next day, March 29, with the UNM Spring Tournament.
The Lobos will travel to the University of Denver on April 5 and UNLV on April 19 for more spring tournament action.
UNM will hold a fund-raiser on April 27. Grass Bash will be an outdoor tournament played on the Johnson Fields, adjacent to the Johnson Center. For more information about the tournament, contact UNM director of volleyball operations Courtney Winninger at (505) 277-0102.
The Lobos will have their final competition on a China Tour from May 27-June 7. UNM will face competition in Beijing and Shanghai during the 12-day tour.
