CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. and ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - All members of the New Mexico men's tennis team were in action today, only not in the same state. Senior Divan Coetzee and juniors David Kowalski and Ryan Stotland were competing in the consolation round of the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. while the rest of the members were home hosting the annual Balloon Fiesta Invitational.

Coetzee had an impressive day, beating the No. 2 player in the nation today. Coetzee dropped Georgia's Bo Hodge 4-6; 6-4; 6-2 to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. Tomorrow he will take on Erik Nyman of BYU at 9 a.m. In his first consolation match, Coetzee netted a 6-4, 6-2 win over ClaytonAlmeidaof Winthrop.

Kowalski and Stotland won their first match in the doubles consolation round today. The duo beat Jimmy Haney and Peter Stroer, Texas's No. 1 doubles team, 9-8 (7) to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. The tandem lost to Mississippi's Paul Ciorascu and Claes Lindholm, 8-6.

At the Balloon Fiesta, New Mexico still has a chance to win the singles crown for the third consecutive year thanks to senior Jasmin Hodzic. Hodzic went 2-0 on the day getting wins over Air Force's Trevor Johnson (6-4; 6-2) and New Mexico State's No. 8 seeded Ben Archer-Clowes (1-6; 6-4; 4-2 ret.), respectively. Hodzic will take on the tournament's fourth seed, Tyler McClung of Air Force, tomorrow at 10 a.m.

In the B Flight, sophomore Eric Conklin is in the running for the title. He downed California-Riverside's Caesar Regaliza (6-0; 6-0) and New Mexico State's Spencer Peoples (6-4; 6-4), respectively. Conklin faces Denver's Jason Tan tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.

The Lobos have a shot at a second straight doubles title with three tandems remaining as play heads into the quarterfinals tomorrow.

Seeded second in the tournament are Hodzic and freshman Hiroud Akhavan. The team defeated Denver's Colin Days and Steve Flaks 8-6 in their only competition of the day. The duo will square off against David Detudamo and Ananda Sawmynaden of New Mexico Military Institute at 4 p.m.

Sophomore Nick Ames and freshman Robert Grzeskowiak remain alive with their 8-5 win over Air Force's Patrick Jason and New Mexico State's Spencer Peoples. They face the tournament's third-seeded duo in Denver's Neje Smole and Viktor Zetterholm at 4 p.m.

Conklin teamed up with classmate Henry Gers. The pair downed the fourth-seeded Lew Deleon and Thibault Schram of Northern Arizona, 8-6, in the round of 16. To start the day, the duo beat Air Force's Robbie Alexander and Justin Lau, 8-1. Conklin and Gers take on Denver's Hans Peter Gaber and Niki Popovic at 4 p.m.
