Lobos Staying Active With Summer Ball

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Several Lobos baseball players are staying active and preparing for an even better 2007 sseason by playing summer ball. Jordan Pacheco headlines the group, playing in the prestigious Cape Cod league while five of his teammates are battling it out in the Northwoods league.

Pacheco, playing for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, has played in all three games so far this summer. He is hitting .273 with a team-high three RBI and three walks.

Ian Hollick and Matt Foote are playing for the Eau Claire Express, which are 10-7 in the Northwoods League, the second best record to date. Foote leads the team with a .273 batting average and .407 on base percentage. Hollick, hitting just .235 has produced the third most hits (12) and runs (5) for the Express.

Also in the Northwoods League, Dane Hamilton and Brandon Hewett followed assistant coach Josh Simpson to the Waterloo Bucks, which are 9-8 overall and trailing Eau Claire by a game in the South Division. Hamilton has played in 10 games, recording five hits while Hewett has thrown 6.1 innings in four appearances.

Drew McDonald is also competing for a Northwoods League team, the Brainerd Blue Thunder. McDonald has caught 11 games, hitting .237 with three RBI.

Daniel Stovall, playing for the Hays Larks of the Jayhawk League (Kan.), has started in all 13 games and is hitting a team-high .404 with 19 hits, five doubles and 12 RBI.

Jay Russell headed out west, suiting up for the Salinas Valley Packers of the California Collegiate League. Russell, hitting .222, has started five games, getting four hits, including one of the team's four triples.

Other Lobos playing this summer include Scott Gracey (Galesburg Pioneers, Central Illinois Collegiate League), Max Willett (Colorado) and Chad Itokazu (Hawaii)>
