Lobo Softball Closes Season With Victory Over Utah, 5-2

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- New Mexico seniors Samantha Hughes and Analise Rubalcava have been named to the 2009 Mountain West All-Conference softball team as selected by the league's six head coaches today. Hughes and Rubalcava mark the first time since 2006 that UNM has had two student-athletes named All-MWC in softball. Hughes earns her first all-MWC honor after leading New Mexico in hitting with a .387 batting average and home runs with eight. Rubalcava received her second All-MWC selection and first since 2007 after leading UNM in hitting during conference play with a .391 average.
BYU sophomore Jessica Purcell was named MWC Player of the Year, while fellow Cougar Christie Zinanti captured the MWC Pitcher of the Year award. San Diego State's Bailey Micetich garnered MWC Freshman of the Year acclaim, and BYU's Gordon Eakin captured MWC Coach of the Year honors for the first time.
The 20-member all-conference team includes five student-athletes each from regular-season champion BYU and San Diego State, four from UNLV, and two apiece from Colorado State, New Mexico and Utah.
