New Mexico vs. North Carolina A&T
New Mexico Head Coach Don Flanagan
I like the way we played. We started slow, and without Amy [Beggin], but I thought we did a nice job of figuring out their defense and their weaknesses. We had good shot selection. I'd thought they would press us a little bit more, but I think they may have been a little afraid of the altitude with the press. I like what we did in the second half in particular, getting good shot selection, open looks, and then shooting a great percentage. There wasn't any nervousness or lack of poise on our part. I thought we did a nice job of evaluating what they were doing, figuring out what might be a weakness, and then taking advantage of it.
New Mexico Senior Guard Amy Beggin
On her sore ankle and coming off the bench:
It's a little sore but it's a tough game, so I just played through it. I'm going to keep playing through it and keep going strong to help my team out when I can. Georonika [Jackson] deserved the start today. I think we have a lot of people who can start and she did a great job. I just want to help the team any way I can for my last season here, and I want to win. It doesn't matter to me whether I start or come off the bench, whether I play two minutes or forty. I just want to contribute when I'm in there.
North Carolina A&T Head Coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs
I was excited for our kids. They played well, especially in the first half. I'm excited that they out-rebounded a taller team. I was happy to see my freshmen get going in this game. All in all I give credit to New Mexico, as [Coach Flanagan] has done a wonderful job with this program.
On playing in The Pit
It wasn't anything different for me. We play in front of big crowds, but it was probably an experience for the young kids. There's great support here. I think we would have done a great job if we'd have been able to keep them out of game as well as we had in the first half.
