ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico volleyball head coach Jeff Nelson announced the signing of Ashley Rhoades to a National Letter of Intent today. Rhoades is a 5-11 middle blocker from Rio Rancho High School in New Mexico.
"Ashley is a phenomenal athlete," said Nelson. "We were impressed by her from the first time we got a look at her, just weeks after we arrived in New Mexico. She is fast, a good jumper, gets her hands high, and works hard. She comes from a great program under the direction of a great coach in Toby Manzanares and knows how to win."
Rhoades, the daughter of Ron and Terry Rhoades, is playing for her third consecutive New Mexico 5A state championship title for the Rams this week at the Johnson Center on the campus of UNM. She was a 2006 all-state selection for the Rams. An excellent student with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average, Rhoades plans to study architecture at UNM. She also participates in New Mexico Juniors club volleyball.
"We were so excited when Ashley committed," continued Nelson. "Our staff is committed to recruiting the top high school players in the state of New Mexico. It was great to sign one of the best right away in Ashley."
