Recap |  Final Stats

Head Coach Yvonne Sanchez

On the disappointment of opening the conference home schedule with a loss ...

"We had an unbelievable crowd, they packed in. That stretch right before the 11-minute media timeout we just backed down and let them do whatever they wanted. They caught our eight- or 10-point lead and by the time I was able to call that timeout-and I should've done it earlier.

"I'm disappointed in the way we played down the stretch. I'm disappointed in the way we didn't box out the entire game. It's really disappointing to lose this way, when you give up 20 offensive rebounds-48 total. "Caroline Durbin had a career night with 29 points, but nobody else helped her on the offensive end. That's tough."

On whether or not the Lobo players are afraid to shoot the ball ...

"It does seem like that sometimes, but they shouldn't be. Hey, put it up. We've shot a worse percentage before. We run a lot of things to Caroline, so that might have been it-the last five or seven minutes. It seemed like she was the only one that was scoring. Porche (Torrance) in the middle a bit. The disappointment to me is you give Chaundra Sewell 26 points. We played dead behind her, which we're not supposed to do. We didn't box her out, and then we fouled her. She was just a tougher post player today. She outworked and outplayed all our post players and that was pretty disappointing too."

On the significance of the loss ...

"Well, 0-2 in the conference is not what you want. Last year we started 0-5, and that wasn't fun. It doesn't get any easier. It's a game we could've won. It's one of those games where you look back at the stats and boxing out was one thing, getting other people involved is another. We played a lot with four guards, which we had never done. I think that was a little bit new to the team. With Chinyere (Nnaji) fouling out, we didn't get a lot from our post game.

"I will credit Emily (Stark). Emily went in and did a great job. She was 2-for-3, scored four points and grabbed a couple rebounds. For having been out for a little while, she came in and played well."

On having a thin bench ...

"Well, it's been thinner this year. Now that we get into conference play and we're not able to put in a Jourdan Erskine or a Deeva Vaughn-it makes things tough. There are no excuses. Injuries are a part of the game. The team that we have that is able to get on the floor, you have to coach them during practice and you have to try to make them better. If we can do that and just get better, it'll be good for us. "Again-it's a game we let get away from us. As brilliantly as Caroline played, she just really got no help."

On the Lobos' last possession of the game, in which Jayme Jackson drove the length of the floor and put up the final layup ...

"We were going to try to get either Jayme or Caroline off the double screen. The thing is, there were eight seconds and they pressed a bit. The best player to have the ball in their hands was Jayme-take it all the way to the basket. She makes plays. I told Jayme that it takes a lot of guts to take that shot, anybody can take the shot when the score is tied or you're up by one point, but when you're down by two and it's for the game-it does take a lot of guts to take a shot. She took it and got blocked. It was good defense on their part."

Senior Guard/Forward Porche Torrance

On Wyoming's Chaundra Sewell ...

"She was just being aggressive and I was playing behind her. After that she made her shots."

On what the Lobos can take from this loss ...

"It is definitely a learning experience. We can't dwell on it and we need to move forward. Practice on Monday, we need to keep working hard. We lost our momentum at the end and they were more aggressive. We just didn't finish."

On how the Lobos can improve their rebounding ...

"We need to box out and that is one thing that Sanchez always stresses, and that is one thing that killed us this game."

On the lack of numbers on the Lobo bench...

"We just need to fight through that. We don't really have a lot of post players, but we can't have any excuses for that. The players that we have we just need to play hard for them until they are back. We just can't have any excuses."

Junior Guard Caroline Durbin

On her first-half performance ...

"It felt really good. Almost anything I shot felt like it was going to go in, and luckily it did. I felt like I had the hot hand, I guess."

On Wyoming's defense on her in the second half ...

"They stepped up their defense on me, so I tried to take my shots but also get my teammates involved a little more. They started to double me.

On having a career high in points, yet still losing ...

"Yeah, it doesn't really matter to me since we lost."

On the next-highest Lobo scorer having six points ...

"Well, I love my teammates. To be fair, we were running a lot of plays for me since I had the hot hand. That was one reason my points were high. My teammates did a good job of screening for me and getting the ball."
