ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The 22nd ranked New Mexico men's soccer team received two goals from Chris Wright and one from Justin Davis Friday night in a 3-0 victory over Sacramento State at the UNM Soccer Complex. The Lobos outshot the Hornets, 12-1 and managed six shots on goal. UNM cruised to its fifth victory in six games while improving to 10-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Sacramento State falls to 4-11-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the conference play.
Davis snapped a scoreless tie in the 31st minute with his fourth goal of the year. Davis scored on a cross from Ryan Farquharson on the left side of the box. UNM had the only four shots of the game in the opening period and took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Wright and UNM erupted for two goals in the second half to secure the 3-0 victory. Wright's first goal came in the 54th minute on a header taken off a Joey Vitagliano corner kick. The Lobos had six corners in the match compared to none by the Hornets.
Wright struck again in the 61st minute on an assist from Diego Barrera. Wright, who scored his ninth and 10th goals Friday, found the net from the top right corner of the penalty box.
The Lobos return to action Sunday against San Jose State at 1 p.m. in the home finale. UNM will host its annual Senior Day presentation prior to the event.
