COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico junior third baseman Stefanie Carramusa has been named Mountain West Softball Player of the Week for games through March 25 the conference office announced Tuesday. This is the third career MW weekly award for Carramusa.
The Tucson, Ariz., native batted .529 (9-for-17) while helping New Mexico to a 5-0 record at the SpringHill Suites Invitational #2 in Boise, Idaho, over the weekend. The five wins helped the Lobos (22-6) back into the USAToday/NFCA Div. I poll as UNM came in at No. 25 in this week's poll.
The Lobos' leadoff hitter compiled a slugging percentage of 1.000 and on-base percentage of .600, hitting two home runs and two doubles while driving in four runs, scoring nine and stealing two bases. She registered at least one hit and one run scored in all five contests, including multi-hit and multi-run performances in the Lobos' final three games.
After opening tournament play Friday with one hit, one RBI and one run apiece in wins over Weber State (13-5) and Seattle (6-5), Carramusa went 3-for-4 in an 8-5 victory over Seattle on Saturday, hitting a double and home run to finish with two RBI and three runs scored.
She closed out tournament action with a 4-for-6 effort on Sunday, crossing the plate four times as New Mexico shut out UTSA (8-0) and run-ruled Weber State, 12-1, in six innings. Defensively, the Lobo third baseman recorded two putouts and 17 assists with one error.
Carramusa's two home runs in Boise puts her at a season total of 12, one shy of the UNM single-season home run record. She also ranks fifth in the nation for home runs per game as she averages .43.
